COMMUNITY BACKSTORY

Bixby, which officially became a town in 1895, was named after the chairman of the Dawes Commission, Tams Bixby. The Commission laid out the plat for the community, and the community became a self-governing, independent town in 1906. Agriculture was the main industry through the 20th century, but a boom of natural gas deposits provided a variety of other avenues for work. Still, the community continued in its growth and began shipping vast amounts of vegetables throughout the US.

Bixby Public Schools are not only some of the top-rated schools in the greater Tulsa area, but they are ranked the number 8 district for the entire state of Oklahoma. Bixby North Elementary School is rated the second best elementary school for the Tulsa area while Bixby High School comes in at number three. With a heavy emphasis on academics and college prep as well as high rankings in health and safety, Bixby is a great place for children of all ages to excel their academic studies.

Bixby provides many activities, parks, community centers and events. Grab your yoga mat, and be prepared for a free yoga class in the park every Thursday night. Visit Charley Young Park in early June for Bixby’s Green Corn Festival to experience some old fashion, family oriented fun. Play one of the most scenic rounds of golf, surrounded by waterfalls and beautiful wildlife in the state at White Hawk Golf Club.
